Howick Historical Village

Howick Historical Village Trip on PhotoPeach

My Howick Historical Village Trip

On Tuesday the junior syndicate went to the Howick Historical Village because we are learning about change in the past and in the present.

First we all got into groups because we had to go to four different activities. My first activity was the inside toys and my favourite toy there was the gingerbread man race. The little gingerbread man is at the bottom of the string and there’s a little bit where you have to pull so the gingerbread man goes up. There are two of these gingerbread men and the first person to get their gingerbread man to the top of the string wins.

Next my group went to the outside toys. I liked the outside toys because most of the toys were made of wood and metal which made them hard but fun!

After that my group went to the old school. I liked the old school because the teacher would pick a student to come up the front of the class to count in twos and the student up the front would have to look out for people that weren’t counting in twos. If they weren’t they had to write on the slate board ‘I need to learn my times tables 100 times’ – that’s a lot of times!

Finally my group went to nursery rhymes. My favourite nursery rhyme was Jack Be Nimble because we had to jump over the candlestick and try not to get burnt.

I loved going to the Howick Historical Village. My favourite activity was the old school because it would be funny if you would actually have to write ‘I need to learn my times tables 100 times!’

I loved the old school because the teacher did teaching with the children and teaching with the maps and she did weird things!

Finally we went to the outside toys. I rode a wooden horsey and it felt like I was on an alive horse. I could run in circles very fast.

Afterwards the Korean students had some fun trying to teach Room 14 their elastics game!

Check out these youtube clips:

You can buy these elastics at the Warehouse or at most toy departments. It's a great game to teach your child at home as it helps develop their balance, co-ordination, left-right brain crossover and memory.

Ambury Farm Trip Recounts

We have been working very hard on writing our own recount of the Ambury Farm Trip.

We are learning to (WALT):

WALT: Write interesting sentences.
I need to remember to:
Use a capital letter to start a sentence.
Use my word card to help me spell fast words.
Write down the sounds I can hear in words in the right order.
Put a full stop at the end of a sentence.
Use joining words e.g. and, so, because.
Use topic words.
Use describing words.
Use different sentence starters.

Our new children in Room 14 are learning to:

WALT:  Write simple sentences.
I need to remember to:
Use a capital letter to start a sentence.
Use my word card to help me spell fast words.
Write down the first and last sounds I can hear in words.
Put a full stop at the end of a sentence.

Find your recount and read it to your family.

Then look at our great photos of our Ambury Farm Trip!

Finally we got to feed the chickens and one of the chickens almost pecked Roman’s finger off.

I loved going to Ambury Farm because we got to feed all of the animals.

First we went to the shearing shed. In the shearing shed I learnt that the dirtiest part of a sheep is the bottom because sheep poo gets stuck in the sheep’s wool.

Next we went to the milking shed. I learnt that to get milk from cows they have to have a baby first just like us.

Finally we got to feed the chickens. Their beaks felt really tickly when they ate the food off my hand.

I had great fun at Ambury Farm Park because we got to feed the lambs and make them feel better.
